General Robert E. Lee

Robert Edward Lee (1807-1870), Confederate Commander-In-Chief from Virginia.

One of history's most distinguished generals. He graduated second in his class at West Point. In 1859 he was called upon to lead a group to put an end to John Brown's Harpers Ferry Raid. The end of the Confederacy came when Lee was unable to destroy the Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg and was forced to retreat into Virginia. After the war he served as President of Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) in Lexington, Virginia until his death on October 22, 1870.
